Australia’s unemployment rate has fallen to 4.1% in the latest jobs figures, defying expectations of an increase. The stronger-than-expected employment data is putting pressure on the Reserve Bank to consider raising the cash rate when the board meets in early 2026. Economists are now predicting the first interest rate decision of 2026 will be a hike, despite inflation being considerably lower than previous levels.
