Heat records will be challenged across much of Victoria today as the state prepares for what could be its hottest day since the 2009 Black Summer fires.
Extreme heatwave warnings are in place for the North East and East Gippsland, with severe warnings covering seven other regions.
The extreme heat is worsening dangerous fire conditions across the state.
Residents in the Greater Otway region, including Barongarook, Gellibrand, Beech Forest, and Kawarren, have been advised to evacuate as an out-of-control bushfire is expected to spread rapidly and could pose a threat to lives.
