The 2026 AFC U23 Asian Cup, a biennial youth football championship organized by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), was held in Saudi Arabia from January 7 to 25. The tournament concluded with China securing the runner-up position – marking the team’s first-ever appearance in the final and its best result in the competition’s history.
CGTN stringers were at the stadium interviewing Chinese fans and documenting their passion and expectations for the national team. A fan from Shenyang emphasized that the result mattered less than the team’s ability to inspire young people: "What’s more meaningful is how this national team attracts the younger generation, encouraging more children to take up the sport." Meanwhile, a fan from Beijing reflected: "I’ve become indifferent to winning or losing – every step forward is a new milestone."
