Former Arizona legislator Austin Smith avoided jail time for having phony signatures on his election paperwork and his lawyer said what’s next for him. Prosecutors said the case included forging a deceased woman’s signature, and the judge ruled Smith will be barred from running for public office for five years. Smith’s attorney said he won’t seek public office again and has started an agriculture business.
