On Monday (22), 79-year-old Joseph Boakai was sworn in as the new president of Liberia, following his victory in the November 2023 elections.
Joseph Boakai, promised to unite and rescue Africa’s oldest republic from its economic problems. He listed as his priorities improving adherence to the rule of law, combating corruption and renewing citizens’ hope.
The ceremony ended abruptly after Joseaph Boakai began to show signs of physical weakness while speaking. A spokesman for Joseaph Boakai‘s political party said the president’s weakness was caused by the heat and had nothing to do with his health.
