U.S. President Trump is expected to make an announcement about coal, from the White House. Earlier today, Reuters reported that White House official said Trump is planning to use Cold War-era national defense powers to send nearly $700 million to support coal facilities.
The Defense Production Act, a 1950 law, grants presidents wide authority over national security-related industries. The official said it would be invoked to upgrade more than a dozen coal power plants, build a massive West Coast coal export terminal and match corporate funds to build new power plants.
